Geraldine Morriss, author and member of the Club, has put together a fascinating collection of 16 personal accounts of women's stories of their experiences during wartime - The Most Important Available Reserve of Manpower. A wonderful book now available for you to order with all proceeds going to the Scholarship Trust Fund.
The Scholarship Fund of The University Women's Club of Winnipeg is registered with Canada Customs and Revenue and donations to it are eligible for income tax receipts in full. We welcome donations at any time of the year.
The Club annually awards some 20 scholarships and bursaries, through the auspices of the Universities of Manitoba and Winnipeg and organizations representing the Performing Arts.
Members of the Fund do not make the decisions regarding the winners of the award, but rather the Universities and Performing Arts make the selection. The Fund provides the awards offices of the Universities of Manitoba and Winnipeg, and the performing arts organizations with the monies and they choose the recipients of the awards. Enquiries are directed to these organizations. Once a year, in the autumn, the Fund Directors hold a "Gala" evening to express their appreciation to the members for their continued support.
Scholarship has always been first and foremost with the University Women's Club of Winnipeg. The Club was founded in 1909 and, as early as 1914, records show that contributions were being made to organizations which assisted women wishing to improve their education. Later, funds were given directly to deserving women scholars who would not have been able to continue their studies without outside support.
Scholarship funds now come from personal contributions from members, "in Memoriam" donations made to honour the memory of a Club member or her relatives or friends, interest on investment income and rental monies from the Paperback Library.
The Scholarship Trust Fund is a separate financial group and its investments are administered by an investment company which also administers the Club finances.
