"Extraordinary Ordinary
Women:
Manitoba Women and Their Stories"

Do you remember your mother, your grandmother, your aunt...and all
the things that they had to do, just to survive?
Their lives were extraordinary - although they would never have considered
themselves anything other than women who were just doing whatever it took
for them and their families to survive.
This book celebrates them...and women like them.
Women need to be remembered for the contributions that they made to our
lives and to the growth and development of Manitoba as:
- Women and the fur trade
- Farm Women
- Women and the Arts
- Women as Healers
- Women and Education
- Women in War Time
- Women in the Labour Force
- Women as Community Builders
- Women as Activists
- Women and Commerce
Extraordinary Ordinary Women is a millennium
project of the Manitoba Council of the Canadian Federation of University
Women. The book contains the stories of 39 individual women and 2 further
stories of women's groups beautifully written and illustrated with historic
photos from throughout Manitoba.
The original date of publication was October 2000, (our Millennium Project)and
it has now gone through three printings, a total of 3,500. Copies have been
distributed to all Manitoba high schools, and Manitoba Resource Centres.
Approximately $30,000 has been raised for scholarships, much of this matched
